Expeditions

The Bayne / Coleman Project

Tom Gross

Pending permit approval, Tom Gross and his team will complete a documentary of the search for the burial vault of Sir John Franklin and possibly the documents of his 1845–1848 Expedition. The proponent has been conducting surveys of Cape Felix, King William Island for the past 23 years and has made a discovery that could be the source of The Peter Bayne / Pat Coleman story. The hypothesis is the Franklin expedition actually reached further down the west coast of King William Island than the Victory Point document suggests and that the ships were beset in the ice trying to return to England after Sir John Franklin's death in 1847. It is possible there are two burial sites and the second one will be located on Cape Felix. The second site may relate to the one reported to Charles Francis Hall by the Inuk Supunger. The documentary will follow along an overland route by ATV and up along the west coast stopping at all the important Franklin related sites.
