Institutional Landscapes of suburban Poverty Management: The Case of North Surrey, BC

Andrew Longhurst’s research aims to determine how geographies of survival in suburban spaces shape, and are shaped by, specifically suburban forms of poverty management; examine how spaces of survival and care for service-dependent groups – shelters, needle exchanges, soup kitchens – function as sites in which existing models of poverty management are challenged or reproduced; and examine how ‘suburban governance’ and rapid development are places pressures upon service providers and their clients in a historically low-income neighbourhood of Surrey, BC.
