• Axel
Heiberg Haute Ski Traverse 2005 - A team of four skiers
completed a six week unsupported traverse of Axel
Heiberg Island north of Resolute Bay, Nunavut (map). Their route
crossed many of the ice caps and icefields of this island. Hence the
expedition name, Axel Heiberg Haute Ski Traverse 2005.

• Taking place in the summer of 2005 was the expedition From
Sweetwater to Saltwater that was postponed from 2004. Ingeborg
Jean and Karl Mattson undertook a journey by canoe that began at their
doorstep on Sweetwater Road in Rolla, BC and finished on the Arctic

• Graeme and Lynda Magor, accompanied by their daughters Keziah
(7) and Kira (3), completed their stay on Devon Island for their expedition Simon
Says Explore: A Child's Arctic. CBC Radio One aired a piece about

• Alberta Centennial Mountain Expedition, in honour
of the 100th anniversary of Alberta's founding in 1905, this team
of eight skiers plan a traverse of the provincial boundary along the
great divide from the US/Alberta/BC border to Willmore Wilderness

• The Dubawnt River Art Expedition, a four woman team
sponsored by The Royal Canadian Geographical Society spent a month
in the summer of 2004 canoeing Nunavut's Dubawnt River, and capturing
the experience on video, film and a giant five-by-seven-foot canvas.
• VanPeenen's
expedition aimed to chronicle the extent of change in the
landscapes Back painted in the 19th century.
• Photographer Mike Beedell and his team of kayakers were foiled
as they tried to circumnavigate Bylot Island last summer. Details
on Kayak Nunavut '99.
• Voyageur Quest - Ian and Sally Wilson stepped back
in time to travel like the Voyageurs of days gone by. See
their final update.
• On the tip of the toes -- A therapeutic expedition organized
by Dr. Sylvain Baruchel of Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Every
year, a number of young cancer patients travel to remote areas in
Canada to experience nature. This year, the group will head to Oujé-bougoumou
and other locales in northern Quebec. The RCGS is pleased to sponsor
one patient on this year's trek of discovery.

Rivière Denys expedition |
• The
Otto Sverdrup Expedition - In June 1999, a joint Canadian-Norwegian
team of men, women and a toddler sailed from Norway to over-winter
on Canada's Ellesmere Island.
• The
Unity Peak Expedition - A group of high school students who
climbed for Canada in June of 1998.
The 'Home for the Huskies' project,
also sponsored by the RCGS, was a challenging voyage
that succeeded in returning Antarctic huskies to their
ancestral home in Northern Quebec.

Nov/Dec '94 issue featured 'Home for the Huskies'.
The Mount Logan Expedition -- undertaken
to measure the height of Canada's highest mountain --
was a resounding success. Ten members of the 13-person
team reached the summit of Mount Logan on June 6, 1992
and measured it at 5,959 metres.
Canadian
Geographic, September/October 1992 issue, featured
'To the Top of Canada', the Mount Logan expedition.
