Travel along with Mike Beedell and Ian Tamblyn for an evening of inspiring
images, songs and remarkable experiences as they relive their journeys to
some of the most far-flung corners of Canada – ranging from the Torngat
Mountains on Labrador's east coast to the lush green islands of Haida Gwaii to
many rugged parts of the Canadian Arctic. Sing along as Ian entertains us with
ballads about his travels and experiences, while you are inspired by Mike's many
outstanding images and videotape.
Mike Beedell is an award winning photographer, guide
and outdoor educator with a passion for exploring the
Canadian landscape. Over the last 30 years he
has paddled, skied, hiked, sailed and dog-sledded over 45,000 kilometres
to capture on film the essence of our vast country.
Mike's keen interest in remote
communities, indigenous people and endangered environments has taken him
to many corners of the earth. Mike Beedell lectures internationally sharing his
journeys of discovery. He is the author of "The Magnetic North".
Ian Tamblyn is known as Canada's folk troubadour. This multi-talented singer,
songwriter, composer and explorer will focus on songs with a sense of place.
Ian's travels as an artistic observer and contributor have found their way into
many of his songs and instrumental recordings. Ian Tamblyn was honoured
with the Estelle Klein Award in 2002 for his lifelong contributions to the
Canadian music community.
The Royal Canadian Geographical Society invites you
to listen, watch, learn, and sing along with these two
explorers. Come experience their unforgettable
journeys and hopefully come away with some dreams for travels
of your own. Join us in celebrating 75 years of "making Canada better known to Canadians
and the world."
